"Out On A Limb" 61min
An intriguing science is changing what it means to lose
a limb, not just for the thousands of casualties of
recent wars, but for the millions of civilians who lose
limbs to such common diseases as diabetes. From
Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Johns Hopkins
Applied Physics Lab to universities across the country,
what was once futuristic is occurring now as
developments in robotics and neuroscience create a
new kind of prosthetics. A science story and a human
story, Out On A Limb shows the impact this
transformative science can have, as revolutionary
prosthetics move from the lab to the bodies of
amputees, and particularly to children with limb loss,
who stand to benefit the most.
